Destorying Hillary Clinton

How a bitter primary campaign saw the right's discredited smears gleefully revived and reused by the left (Click here to read the article part1 part2)

Check out the article in the Guardian.

Here is a snippet from part one
In 1998, as six years of a national campaign to demonize First Lady Hillary Clinton — funded by conservatives and rooted in profound anti-feminism — was reaching a fevered crescendo, then-conservative David Brock (now of Media Matters) penned a book called The Seduction of Hillary Rodham. The publisher's note for the tome says of its subject: "No public figure in contemporary life has elicited more polarized reactions than Hillary Rodham Clinton. The first presidential spouse who pursued a major policymaking role, the beleaguered first lady has been a heroine and role model to her feminist allies - and a malevolent, power-mad shrew to her conservative foes."

Sometime in the last decade, her liberal foes evidently decided that whole "malevolent, power-mad shrew" thing sounded pretty good, too.

Throughout the course of the Democratic primary, it was neatly repackaged as "wildly ambitious person who will do anything in her voracious quest to win including destroying the Democratic Party while cackling monstrously and whose womanness totally doesn't matter we swear." The classic misogynist charge once used against Clinton by the vast right-wing conspiracy became the rallying cry of large swaths of the erstwhile reality-based community.

Without a hint of irony.

Clinton was suddenly a bitch, a witch, the Queen of Hearts "who has parasitically attached herself to the legacy and record of" her husband, the screech on the blackboard with an elitist trademark laugh. "Hitlery," "Hildebeast," and "Billary" - staples of 1990s criticisms of the feminist First Lady have returned with a vengeance. She was a monster, the devil in a pantsuit, targeted with dehumanizing and eliminationist rhetoric to which liberal bloggers used to object when the right used it against liberals, but apparently now consider okay, as long as it's only directed at a candidate they don't like.

I am a Clinton Dem. I want more than anything to see her prevail at the convention. But the handwriting on the wall tells me that not only is the DNC corrupting the process that could allow it, the Republican conservatives whose plan to destroy Hillary worked to a certain point and they are laughing at the mess knowing that many of us well fall back on McCain to keep Obama from winning.
What I am saying, ME THINKS we have been hoodwinked by our own party and the Republican party and I am not sure there is a way OUT of this quagmire. If anyone knows a way I hope they get in the lead pretty quickly. How about a NEW POLITICAL PARTY "PUMACAT"

This makes me sick to read...I would love to see a miracle happen in August and she wins the nominee...
But that is wishful thinking on my
part...I have not got over it...ONLY BECAUSE I DON'T BELIEVE IN THE OTHER TWO RUNNING...I WILL VOTE FOR NEITHER....I WILL WRITE HER NAME IN..THAT IS THE LEAST I CAN DO..
I STILL SAY THAT THIS COUNTRY IS MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE...MY GUT TELLS ME..AND I AM GOOD AT GUESSING THINGS..I TOLD MY HUSBAND IN DECEMBER, THAT HILLARY WILL NOT BE THE NOMINEE..I WISH I HAD NEVER SAID THAT, BUT THAT TOO WAS IN MY GUT THINKING..I SAW THE POWER THAT
OBAMA WAS GAINING..AND THE WAY THE MEDIA WAS GOING AFTER HILLARY...
I WILL FIGHT WITH HER IF SHE CHOOSES TO RUN !!!

To "Seasonedcook"....you are one, smart lady...I've read many of your comments and all that you have said is so true...I fear what will happen IF Obama gets elected...we all think our country is in a major mess now...what will it be with someone who has no experience?? I've heard numerous times that Obama is NOT a US Citizen...my question is how can he run to become President...He has swayed so many with his "smooth talk" and I feel that Hillary nor Bill should help him get into that White House...and, for his wife to think that she's another Jackie Kennedy..she had better think twice...I won't vote in November...I'm fortunate to have Hillary as my State Senator...but...am praying that something changes in the not to distance future....HILLARY is the best...if she wasn't...should wouldn't have received over 18 million votes!!!!
GO HILLARY!!!

The way out of the quagmire is daunting but possible. Hillary supporters need to galvanize and write her in. We have more strength than what we know. What a statement that would make to have MILLIONS of people try to right a wrong with a lead pencil. If each of us gave a $1 towards her debt and a dollar towards and internet/media blitz, we could really make a difference. It is the people who will be able to ake the country back---NOT the politicians.

Poster #4 - I think the write in idea has far too many flaws to be realistic. First, it varies by state, so there will be some, if not many states, that won't allow/count a write in name. Second, the 18,000,000 who voted for her in the primaries are not frozen in time. Millions have switched to support Obama (ugh). The only goal a write in campaign could achieve would be to help elect John McCain, and if you're ok with that outcome, may as well vote for him outright. A write in campaign will be the equivalent of having a third party candidate - it will just split the vote, but it won't ensure that Hillary wins. Not by a long shot. Would that it were different.

yall- for those us who believe in prayer, i say it is time for us to get on our hands and knees and pray! we have to pray, (not just for hillary and the former president) but, for our country! we have to pray for protection of our beloved country! this is not just about politics anymore. we might not have a future if our country is at a crossroads and goes down the wrong path. but, karma is a bitch for the all the haters out there of justice and fairness.

Folks I believe the only solution to this dilema is to vote for John McCain, the reason I say this with a Democratic House, and Senate J.M. could be kept in check, and would surly put hillary at the top in 2012.I'm sorry I just can't support obama.

daddyfats, I agree with you. I've never voted Repubican in my life, but as I've said in prior posts, writing in Hillary's name will never even come close to the number of votes she would need to win. It would only split the Democratic vote to the point of losing to McCain, in which case I say, why not then just vote for McCain. And, if we keep our numbers in Congress growing, he will be kept in check.

There's a lot of sound bites out there that love to compare McCain to Bush, but he's not another Bush. Yes, he's a Republican, but as Republican's go, he's far more moderate than many in recent years (which is why he's struggling to garner support among the core Republican base).

I continue to advocate for Hillary and take many actions each day on her behalf, but in the end, on election day, it's going to have to be McCain that I vote for. It's the only way to ensure Obama doesn't get elected and to send the DNC a loud a clear message that I, for one, wasn't joking. This year isn't business as usual.
