The Example of Hillary Clinton..

This is my first post so I would just like to remind everyone just how far we have come in the past year. We witnessed an historic presidential campaign, a historic race to the finish. It was that determination and that drive that sparked a nation. I have been a Hillary fan for many years but, what an honor it was to be elected as a Delegate to the Texas Democratic Convention for Hillary. What a thrilling moment it was for me to stand next to Chelsea and tell her that her mother was, "My Inspiration". It is that historic woman who will go down in history as the woman who paved the way for women in politics. She did play with the boys yet, held her own. She was not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and still to this day as our new Secretary of State is fighting for diplomacy around the world. She is working on rebuilding the reputation of this country and helping rebuild the bridges that were strained in the past few years. Hillary Clinton, is not just an ordinary woman. Hillary Clinton is living proof that you can live up to your God given potential. She reaches out to people no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation or nationality. With a new administration and a team that will serve him well President Obama is beginning to lead this country into a new direction. Change is coming and it is in the wind but, the credit does not go to just one man or one woman. But, to all of the voters who voiced your opinions regardless of your personal preference. We did unite as one strong voice. It is an honor to join this blog, and to be able to follow, report and keep people up to date on a woman that I look up to and admire. Hillary Clinton

Hillary Hard At Work (Spain & Iran)

Hillary has hit the ground running talking to Spain Foreign Minister and reaching out to Iran.

Call me Hillary, Clinton tells Spanish foreign minister (read the article)

"We agreed to call each other Miguel and Hillary to ease communication and will now seek a moment to have a first meeting. We will study our agendas," he told reporters after a telephone conversation with Clinton.

"She demonstrated the desire to strengthen and intensify bilateral relations to the maximum," the minister said, adding their conversation was "short but extremely cordial and satisfactory".

Clinton urges Iran to show "willingness to engage" in talks (read the article)

"With respect to Iran, there is a clear opportunity for the Iranians, as the president expressed in his interview, to demonstrate some willingness to engage meaningfully with the international community," Clinton told reporters.

"Whether or not that hand becomes less clenched is really up to them. But as we look at the opportunities available to us, we're going to have a very broad survey of what we think we can do," Clinton said in her first news briefing.

Obama's First Bill Gives Hillary Clinton Her Last Domestic Policy Victory

Clinton was an early champion for the cause of Lilly Ledbetter, who was paid less than her male colleagues at a Goodyear tire plant for nearly two decades, but had her court-awarded back pay slashed to just 180 days’ worth by the Supreme Court in 2007.

“Everybody in that room knew that she had been the leader on that bill,” said Ann Lewis, a close friend of Clinton’s who also attended. The measure failed the first time around, but Clinton reintroduced it during the campaign. (from the NYDaily)

One Last Request From Dorothy Rodham

I've been so proud watching my daughter over the past few days as she begins a new step in a life so full of accomplishment. And I know she'll continue to do great things for our country.

Now I have to ask you -- for the very last time -- to give her your help. This is our last chance to help Hillary pay down the debt from her history-making campaign.

I know how much it would mean to her to have your help this one last time. Please take this opportunity to show Hillary your support by making a contribution today.

Contribute today to help my Hillary in honor of all she's done to help our country throughout her life.

Thank you for everything you've done for Hillary -- I know you make a difference for her every day.

Sincerely,

Dorothy Rodham

Hillary's Knowledge Of World Events Impresses Bloggers

image from Washington Post
I love what the Stranger had to say about what blogger Joe Klein wrote:

The Stranger talking about listening to Hillary in the Senate hearing
damn if she doesn't have the grave poise and deep learning you want a Secretary of State to have. Not to mention those eyes. You don't want to fuck with those eyes. (Contrast her presence with the puppety figure John Kerry, who is sitting there listening to her speech and for a while there was favored for the job.)
Joe Klein on Hillary at the Senate hearing
I spent the day at the Clinton confirmation hearings and came away impressed, as always, with the woman's sheer ability to process information. Not a missed beat, not an "I'll have to get back to you on that..." It was several hours into the hearing that the full force of the new Administration hit me. Clinton was being asked by Senator Benjamin Cardin whether we could exert our influence on mineral-rich countries to share their wealth with their people. The Secretary of State-designate immediately brought up Botswana's "excellent work" in this area, the education and infrastructure programs that had been funded. And I thought: Botswana? Wow. We've got people who are really interested in governing—who really love public service, who understand that foreign policy means more than simply issuing threats—coming back to your nation's capital! Enthusiasm and care don't always result in wise policy-making, but we've seen how fecklessness and carelessness works.

Hillary's Final Senate Push - Women's Pay Fairness & Healthcare

From the Daily Record
Two bills promoting equal pay for women could end up being the final legislative achievement for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton while she awaits confirmation as secretary of state.

Clinton is re-introducing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, both of which failed to pass the Senate in the last Congress, according to spokesman Philippe Reines.

The two bills passed the House in the last Congress, but Democrats fell three votes short in the Senate of the 60 needed to overcome legislative roadblocks.

With a larger Democratic majority in the Senate this year, both bills could pass next week with Clinton casting her final -- or almost final -- votes as a senator.

The Senate also may pass health care legislation to expand coverage under the State Children's Health Insurance Program, which would give Clinton a chance to vote on another of her pet causes as her last hurrah as a lawmaker. That bill, which was vetoed by President George W. Bush, would extend government-financed health care services to 4 million low-income children who are not now covered.

Donate For A Chance To See Barack Obama Get Sworn In As President

Here is a message from Bill Clinton on an opportunity to be flown to DC to watch Obama get sworn in.

On January 20th, Barack Obama is going to be sworn in as America's 44th President, and you can be there to witness history in the making.

It's going to be a remarkable moment when he takes the oath of office, a moment for America to come together and begin our journey down a new path. I know how much I'm looking forward to this great event, and I hope you will take advantage of this special opportunity to watch Barack Obama and Joe Biden become President and Vice-President of the United States.

The Inaugural Committee will select 10 supporters and their guests to travel to Washington and watch as the new president is sworn in. If you contribute $5 or more to the Inaugural Committee today, you could be selected as one of 10 supporters and their guests who will travel to Washington and participate in this historic Inauguration, as well as attend the welcome ceremony, the parade and an official Inaugural Ball.

Make a contribution, and you and your guest could receive a ticket to history.

You were an important part of Barack Obama and Joe Biden's victory in November. That's why I hope you will take this special opportunity to be there in Washington, D.C. on January 20th and celebrate the change you helped make possible.

As Honorary Co-Chair of the Inaugural Committee, I'm also asking for your support in making the Inauguration a great success. Just as you made a difference in the election, you can help us all get the presidency of Barack Obama off to a great start.

And by making a contribution today, you could be one of the 10 people chosen to fly to Washington with your guest to join in the Inaugural activities.

Contribute today to be a part of the historic Inauguration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden!

Our country is getting a fresh start, and you can help, by supporting the Inaugural Committee today and being part of the celebration in our Nation's Capital on January 20th!

Thanks for your help,
Bill Clinton
Bill Clinton

P.S. -- For an opportunity at a ticket to history, you can also tell us what this Inaugural means to you. You don't need to donate -- just share your thoughts and you could be selected to come to Washington for this historic event.
