Sorry, but I have to say I agree with him... our education system is for crap. I'm embarrassed, as well. Now, what you choose to do with the embarrassment (try to better the nation in some way) is the most important thing.

I too have to agree with Obama..Did I say that????
WE need something done for our schools...Other nations have better
schools then we do...WE honestly fail
as an Education System...I am black,
and I worked in an OHIO school where
I was teaching 10th, 11, 12th graders...HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, How to read 2nd and 3rd grade work...this was back in 1979, 80, and 81...
I stopped teaching because it turned my stomach to see that these kids was being passed on and not be able to read....It was a disgrace...I told the education system in that county also...I begin volunteering at libraries
and after school teaching kids how to read...And today, it is not any
better...I praise the hard working teachers we have here in America...
But we at the same time, have teachers that do not care..It is only a job to them..Sad !

I have to say that with what these teachers get paid, what do you expect, miracles? It starts with acknowledging what a hard job it is and paying these people a decent wage. I can't blame the system so much when they can barely afford the supplies that they need to teach our children correctly. I know in my district alone, they beg the parents to send extra supplies and I have known some of these teachers to take their own out of pocket money to supply what they need when they are not paid enough to begin with. So, I have to agree the system is crap, but PAY these people and maybe it could get better.

Easy to say for a guy who got scholarships to Ivy League schools along w/ his wife. As a caucasian male his age, I didn't have a prayer of paying for those schools. Not a chance in hell. Hypocritical jerk.

i totally agree w/the last person who is a caucasian male. i am a 43yr old hispanic female (6th generation) whose parents worked hard to send me to college and i didn't get that kind of a break. i bet if i had been an illegal alien or whose parents were illegal aliens or had a name like barack hussein obama i might have gotten a hellava deal to an ivy school. what ingrates the obamas are and hypocrites. they are just disgusting. my mom is a retired elementary assist school principal and people go through hell in their jobs. barack needs to shut the hell up and do things instead of just talking about them. i am more embarrased of him than he could ever be of us americans. he is a DISGRACE!!!!!

I have to agree with the last two, this is however a great discussion. We can't blame the schools or should I say the teachers; how can they compete with all the influential hip-hop artists out there educating our kids? Obama should be reaching out to those hip-hop artists, but I guess he can't because they support him. Obama does have a lot of nerve saying what he does, but listen to who's talking. And of course he's embarrassed of America, just like Michelle is not proud of her country. While we all want the best education in our schools, Obama doesn't get it. He doesn't know how to talk to the average American, what can you expect from an elitist? Perhaps he and Michelle can find a country more to their liking and let the rest of us work towards keeping America the best country in the world.

Hillary has been committed to working for children her entire career. During the primary she was the only candidate saying No Child Left Behind was a disaster and needed to go. While some folks were building their resume, she was in the trenches working for children.
