Still Rockin in Denver

-- by RockinRobin

Still here in Denver basking in its perfect Summer weather. We started our Tuesday attending the Women Count lite lunch with Hillary. While I noshed on strawberry pecan salad and roast beef sandwiches, I met up with fellow PUMAs as well as Sophie B. Hawkins who joined our media rally in front of NBC studios in Los Angeles. And I had the honor of meeting the great Chicago politician, Alice Palmer. We all know the story without having to provide all the details. Alice Palmer was the former state senator for Illinois who put her faith and trust in Barack Obama only to ultimately get pushed aside for her seat in the senate.

As Hillary spoke, the crowd roared in applause. As usual, Senator Clinton came on the scene bursting with life with her radiant smile. She spoke about gender bias and the sexism we were subjected to during this primary season. While sexism has been a seemingly dormant social disease in our society, I am grateful that this year has brought it to light so that it can get addressed, perhaps even healed. On that same note, I am equally grateful that this season has brought up race. Another social disease that I always thought was healed. We now know it is not since both issues are in the very air we breath. Perhaps after this is all over, I'll be thanking Barack Obama for bringing about change in the discourse of race and gender. I may even credit him for bringing change to the political process Americans have been, until now, complacent about.

Moving on, some of our fellow PUMAs took our cause to the street ~ again. Delighted to meet some folks from one of our myspace pages. As we marched down 16th street we were met by a small group of students for Obama who were silly enough to think that forming a human wall was going to stop us. But it wasn't so silly to see them push off one of our gals into the street just as a bus rushed by. She came within a few inches of her life and these Obama bullies didn't care. Since there are so many law enforcement officers around us, I requested an escort and they were all too happy to help. We had a swarm of police escorting us as we protested causing quite the scene. Dozens of people jumping in front of us snapping photos, women giving us the thumbs up, and camera crews filming our message ~ so long as we are ridiculed, demeaned, told to 'get over it' and called ungracious, we will swing the vote.

For our readers, let me address what constitutes a PUMA. PUMA, Party Unity My Ass, is not an organization one joins. If you are a Hillary supporter and felt the party did you a disservice AND as a result you are not supporting the "chosen" democratic candidate, you ARE a PUMA. The Obama bloggers and the media such as Huffington Post would LOVE to see to it that the PUMAs are seen in a scary, crazy, radical light. This is more of the same ridicule that will continue to divide us. Go to our other myspace page and just read the comments. Do they sound radical?

Another distinction that we should all be clear about with PUMAs. Like the cat, we have our own territories of expression or talking points. Some terrorities are marked with McCain, others are marked in the Democratic process. Some PUMAs are marked in the fashion territory, the gender terrority, the racial diversity terrority and while not to hem us all in on any single terrority, there are PUMAs who are anti-Obama ~ distinct from NoBama, meaning their mission is to smear Obama. I can safely say that all PUMAs are Nobama but not necessarily interested in smearing him. Finally, PUMAs are not just a few hundred Hillary supporters who get in front of the cameras with their claws out. CLEAR?

By the way, its media like The Huffington Post who need a good claw clipping. We all know that they will not post your comments if it does not support their views. And wasn't it The Huffington Post that allowed horrendous comments about Bush's former press secretary, Tony Snow? Yes, comments about Tony Snow deserving cancer. And they kept those posts alive until MSM (probably a PUMA) hunted down Arianna Huffington with a video camera asking her why she allowed such hateful comments to be made on her site.

Did I digress?

Back to Denver. Later in the day we converged on another JustSayNoDeal site event with The Denver Group. Here, fellow PUMA, Heidi Li Feldman, held a reception where she talked about what's next for us after the convention. Heidi Li is a Georgetown University law professor. In her words, "we are preparing and planning a public course of action, once again using mass media in response to what the DNC has done to the process itself."

check out their latest ad...

Heidi is no slouch on these matters. The Denver Group have been effective with their ad campaigns. If you would like to donate to this cause please click here

The highlight to our night was when a group of us decided to go see Hillary speak. We didn't have passes but heard that some folks were leaving and giving away passes. We needed six passes so when these nice young men came over to share a couple of extra passes, we expressed our gratitude in the way anyone would. No sooner did we accept those passes did one of the guys recognize us as the protesters bullied earlier in the day. They quickly snatched those passes out of our hands. No worries, I was fortunate enough to get a pass from a delegate which allowed me access to all areas in the building, including the floor. I settled for the Club where the bullies were denied access!

Senator Clinton's speech was most inspiring. It was presidential material that hit me over the head with a well of sadness. How the DNC passed up this woman in favor of an inexperienced politician who has no proven track record and is more of the political "status quo" that he spouts of changing as our next president is beyond me. I looked around at others as they watched her with jaws slightly slacked. Could it be they were thinking the same thing?

maybe so

True, mdk!!

Also, don't forget his excellent judgment that the war in Iraq should go on 100 years and we should re-institute the draft to staff it!

Also, he knows how to get this country to greener pastures. After all, didn't he throw away that useless, crippled, cancer-ridden chick for a sexier, younger model?

McCain '08!

Hey, let's NOT be like Hillary and NOT support the "chosen" democratic candidate.
Let's just ignore the fact that she made a splendid speech the other night, CALLING FOR UNITY.
Let's just ignore the fact she said "No way, no how, no McCain". I guess she must have lost your memo to add "NoBama"
Let's throw everything Hillary said the other night under the bus.
Let's just turn our backs on everything Hillary supports, as a Democrat.

Yeah, let's vote for a President who would overturn Roe v Wade.
Let's vote for ANOTHER Bush.

I supported Hillary during her campaign and I'm going to heed her call to support the "chosen" democratic candidate....as is SHE.
So, I guess the PUMAS are ready to wage war on me....and Hillary.
You still don't want Obama? Well, go take that up with Hillary.

Go ahead, I dare you to tell her that IN HER FACE!

"so long as we are ridiculed, demeaned, told to 'get over it' and called ungracious, we will swing the vote."

I supported Hillary and I STILL support her.And I support HER decision to SUPPORT Obama.
As long as you continue to act like this, you WILL BE RIDICULED and DEMEANED.
As a Hillary supporter, I'M telling you to GET OVER IT!

SHAME ON YOU....you don't care about the party, or Hillary, or the fact that African-Americans are proud and their "cracks in the ceiling!
You are no friend of Hillary if you don't support a candidate who shares HER VIEWS in favor of a candidate who will try and overturn/veto issues so dear to her heart.

I hope you all can live with THAT on your conscience!

I cried during while watching the video. That young women is my sister in heart. Stephanie was my sister and I will miss her. I am also to be told not only am I a racist but that to honor Hillary I am to vote for Obama. I own my vote. I will not be told who to vote for. I love my country. You may think that I am not honoring Hillary by voting for McCain. But refusing to cast my vote for Obama and staying home is a vote for him. I cannot vote for this arrogant, racist, nothing and I believe that Hillary does understand. Vote your conscience, I will vote mine.

I had been a (D)emocrat for more than 40 years. But I have seen what the party has become and if I were to remain a democrat (small d)I would be supporting a party led by unethical persons who care nothing about this country but are self serving just as the bottom of the barrel candidate they put forth. That I cannot do. If they get their way they will continue in a downward path. If it takes a stick between the eyes to return them to the party of the people, by the people, and for the people that I can be proud of so be it. But to continue to permit the Pelosis, Deans, Braziles (I see she has not resigned, so much to the truth sayer)to continue down the part to hell would be, for me, selling my soul. You who want to be enablers, can do so but that is not the path for me.

I am very proud of Hillary. She is presidential material for sure. I realize that some comments made on this blog before me were either from Obama supporters or paid Obama people. These people do not share an understanding of how WE feel. They do not understand that if Clinton were never in the race we wouldn't be voting for Obama in November anyway. He is too inexperienced. If it were a man in Hillary's place maybe the DNC would have seen that Obama was too inexperienced and "selected" another "man". Oh well ... my support must go with the experienced, middle of the road, McCain.

Thank you Robin for sharing your days in Denver. I've been watching a lot of MSNBC and CNN...Got to see you on the "front line"...I was very PROUD of you and the people that were supporting your cause. I was so PROUD of how Hillary handled herself on Tuesday night...she really is a "true" President...I keep thinking and will remain to keep on thinking that this is not the end for her....but....the beginning...Hillary has learned so much from all of this...did so much for the women of this country.....and, her dream will be fulfilled in 2012...until then....I NEED HER BACK HERE IN NY WHERE SHE CAN CONTINUE TO DO GOOD FOR ALL OF US HERE...
TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS YOU....AND...THANK YOU FOR BEING IN DENVER FOR ALL OF US THAT COULD NOT BE!!

Excellent article that captures the essence of PUMA, despite the slanders even from the once-lefty Nation magazine, where they floated the notion that we have been McCain supporters all along, and a few other less flattering rumors. Hope Robin gets 5 minutes yielded from a delegation or speaker to share these truths with the convention. My greatest fear is Obama doing "disgruntled's" item 3, claiming he is forced to "protect" us as he then concedes all his great programs cannot be implemented until a much later time(hope & change deferred), and we wait another 60 years for the issue of national health care, etc. I will apply my judgement and experience, rather than casting it aside (sorry, but "get over it" is my message to BarehackHObama.)

IT'S TIME FOR THE PUMAS TO GROWL VERY LOUD TO LET THE DNC AND OBAMINATION NO WE WILL NOT SUPPORT HIM.IT'S TIME TO SHOW THE WORLD THAT "WE THE PEOPLE" MEAN WHAT WE SAY!! NO OBAMINATION NEVER.

I HAVE A QUESTION TO ALL THE ANONYMOUS COMMENTORS,WHY MAKE A COMMENT IF YOUR AFRAID TO BE RECOGNIZED.I'M PROUD OF MY STANCE AGAINST OBAMA,AND I WANT EVERY ONE TO KNOW DARRELL REED DOES NOT TRUST,OR BELIEVE ANYTHING OBAMA SAYS.I'M NOT BEING CRITICAL BUT BE PROUD YOU ARE STANDING UP AGAINST CORRUPTION IN THE DNC.
PUMA PAC DEMOCRAT JUST SAY NO!

To RockinRobin--
I cringed when I read that racism is a social disease that you thought had been healed. With all due respect, you need to do some research on that. It is not healed. You must not be black. The only way you could understand what it is like to be black in this country is to put on make-up, etc. to look black and walk around for a day. Just because some racism is subtle does not mean it is harmless. I hate what the media and DNC did to Hillary. I understand the frustration. But don't let that blind you to the fact that racism is alive and well in the US, as is sexism. We share that "ism" disease, and in fighting that, we should be united.

I, too, really enjoyed the report, and was moved to tears (again) when she spoke on live TV about some of her/our concerns and issues.

BUT, but as an old-time Democrat, and ardent women's/civil/animal rights advocate I cannot in good conscience vote for McCain and/or the Republican Party. I just can't. I also believe Hillary is so savvy that she must know something that we don't see, and that she feels as I do, that we can't cut off our collective noses in order to appease our righteous rage. Lastly, I believe the truth will out (after Hillory/Bill's speech already many are seeing a glimmer)so must trust our voices will be heard, but NEVER under Republican rule.

Anonymous said...

Yes-we need to stay with our own party-Hillary must know things that we don't. Like she said " No way No how No MCCain!" i don't like Obama but I do not vote for Republicans! We need to get the Democrats back in the White House and settle things with the DNC and the "MOB" later. We don't want Republicans messing up our country any more and we don't want them to put two more Supreme Court Judges in to reverse Roe v Wade. We have to be smarter that they give us credit. We are united now we have to set up our plan of attack. GO PUMAS!! Hillary 2012!!

Anonymous said...

I am so "PROUD OF HILLARY" !! What an amazing and gracious "LADY". After all that she has been through-she is so "TOGETHER". I swear if it had been me-I would be in therapy! We need to get our Smart PUMAS (lawyers ,etc)to research and file charges on the DNC, especially Howard Dean (WHAT A D**K head)and Nancy Pelosi-did you see the way she drools at Obama... YUCK! What is up with that?! She is definitely not right!

Anonymous said...

I support Hillary but I will vote no for Obama. I want the democrat gets back into the WH, but not this democrat Obama.

My reason for voting "No" Obama is simple. He is a talker, not a doer. He is excellent in giving "prepared" speeches, but he cannot give good answers for questions that he did not prepare. This is not a leader qualification to me.

It is my vote, I will only vote for somebody whom I have confidence in him/her.

I'm just glad no one got hurt during the protest. Those Obama supporters are not nice people. I was a Hillary supporter but I can't bring myself to follow suite supporting the "chosen" democratic candidate. I will support her in 2012. I use to be a very proud democrat but last year I started voting for individuals based on what they could do for citizens. I think this has been the worst Primary/Caucus season. First Michigan gets punished by the DNC because they hold the primary early. Then when Clinton gives in to Nobama, Michigan and Florida's votes are just handed to him like he was god or something. I really think that the press really needs to dig into the issue of him not being a Natural Born Citizen of the United States. It's such a disgrace to see the way the DNC is thumbing its nose at the US Constitution in favor of having this supposed African/American US citizen as their candidate. The DNC will let women have a shot at the nomination but that's as far as they will let them go. The DNC is so sexist. No wonder there are more male Democrats. I personally think there isn't one Democrat in office; either in the Senate or House that is worth the paper their degrees are written on. Oh and I don't think they will let Hillary be the candidate in 2012. I'm ashamed the way the political process is turning back the clock. It's as if political machines are making a comeback. They want the party United but as long as they keep segregation alive there will be no unity. How can anyone follow or support someone that voted 3 times on Live Birth Abortions. That is inhumane. He didn't even know when "life" started when he appeared on Christian Television debate with John McCain; and he has two children which makes that statement seem ludicrous. I just can't stand idly by and watch people I know vote for someone who isn't more qualified than that unborn child who can't speak. Every time I write a blog stating my opinion of the man my friends attack me. They tell me McCain is too old but I'd rather have an old experience Senator than a young inexperience Senator that isn't a Natural Born Citizen. People who support OBAMA need to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE SHIT HE'S SPEWING. I just pray people wake up before November 4th because it could be a WWIII if they don't.

Thank you all Puma's and our work is not done.

Hillary and Bill's speeches were fabulous. Despite the media saying they are finished. I don't think so...........
Once the Republicans unleash the stuff they have on Obama he will be toast.

I thought McCains jesture congratulating Obama for his historic nomination was gracious even though he said we will go back to it tomorrow, was brilliant.

I hope to goodness he doesn't pick Meg Whitman (ebay diaster lady) then I won't be able to vote for McCain. (giggle).

I am a puma, I am a 48 yr democratic veteran but I CANNOT vote for Obama. Don't let the idiots scare you about Roe Vs Wade and Supreme Court justices picks. What is important to ME is to keep Iran from firing the scud missle from a small boat they have tested that can reach us and destroy our infrastructure. We need a commander in chief who is not afraid of the terrorists and can handle them. People don't realize how insecure our country is becoming and we need a warrior/protector not a talker in the white house.

Having said I can't support Obama, I sincerely hope in the future a true American black leader emerges that this country can support with the same vigor but have a person worthy of the excitement. Obama's oratory skills cover the sawdust inside his suits and should he strip there would be nothing left standing and a small pile of sawdust on the floor. With McCain, an iron man, we can feel safer.

I am posting this everwhere I can -is anybody listening? Or is common sense falling on deaf ears??

As a proud supporter of HRC: This nonsense about voting for John McCain needs to STOP NOW.

Hillary's run at this is over, and we need to accept that fact as graciously as she has. Get REAL: We will NEVER be heard on our issues by John McCain, but we HAVE been heard by Obama; Hillary has made sure of that, and I trust her judgement.
I see you all have nothing to say after his acceptance speech last night...interesting.

In Response to ALL of you "PUMAS":

This is personal, Don't you DARE screw up this election for us: I have been out of work for 6 MONTHS now because of this sucky Bush economy and I def do NOT want 4 more years of the same!!!!!!
I have decided to support Obama so that MY voice will be heard.

I proudly Sign my Name,

Way to go, Kim!!!!!
Now, McPain (hehe) named Sarah Palin for his VP. Who in the heck is she?
44 years old and I never heard of her.
Gad, if the PUMAS support her and she even has less experience than Obama, then I really will question whatever sanity they have left!
(and that isn't much, from what I've seen from them these past few days).

Signed,
Pam in Indiana

Oh great. CLintons4McCain are thrilled with Sarah Palin.
I'm sure Hillary is so thrilled to have her name attached to a website which is so enthusiastically touting a pro-life candidate.

I'd love to see her stance on other issues but she's an unknown. However, she does appear to have even LESS experience than Obama.
Yup, nothing but an "empty suit" to me.

The Republicans are very sneeky. . They did this on purpose because they know that there are many Disenfranchised Hillary supporters and they want our votes. The joke would be on us though if we fell for this trick. Mccain does not favor women and his ideas are not like anything we believe in.As others have said-Lots of things are going to come out about Obama-so we may not have to vote for him but we definitely do not want to vote for MCSAME. WE need to get out of this war and use all that money for our country. I don't want my only son going back over there. Enough! Women should choose what they will do with their bodies! Why don't they ban Viagra!
And lay off our reproductive rights?!

Anonymous said...

Amen!
And if the SO-CALLED, PSEUDO Hillary supporters fall for this trick...the "woman card".....then they are dumber than *****!

Hillary rocks! But some of you don't if you fall for this sham and vote for McSHAM and Eskimo Queen.
Another 4 years of this c***....on your heads be it. And I'll be glad to dump it on your heads!
